An Se-Young of South Korea Wins the BWF French Open 2024

<p>After capturing the French Open championship at the Paris facility that will host events this summer, An Se-young, the world number one in badminton, issued a caution ahead of the Olympics.</p>

<p>In the French city on Sunday, the South Korean defeated competitor Akane Yamaguchi of Japan 18-21, 21-13, and 21-10 to win her 21st BWF World Tour title and second of the year.</p>
<p>The 22-year-old An stated: “This is an important event before the Olympics and I felt a lot of pressure at first. I will be the favorite to win a first Olympic gold in four months.”</p>
<p>“I am really happy and it means a lot to me to win in the Olympic arena.”</p>
<p>“I think I’ll be in a better mood when I return here for the Olympics.”</p>
<p>The competition held at Porte de la Chapelle Arena served as a trial run for the organizers of the Paris Olympics.</p>
<p>After making history in 2023, An has become the best player in women’s badminton; however, a knee ailment has caused her to suffer recently.</p>
<p>Yamaguchi, the former world champion who has also been sidelined by an injury, was competing in her first World Tour championship since September.</p>
<p>The 26-year-old said that throughout the 64-minute championship match, she ran out of gas.</p>
<p>The world-ranked Japanese player said, “I slowed down in the third.”</p>
<p>“I made it to the final and my condition is much better now than it was two months ago, but I feel like there’s still more work to be done.”</p>
<p>Shi Yuqi of China, ranked second in the world, defeated Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand in a 22–20, 21–19 victory to win the men’s French Open championship.</p>
<p>One of the most prominent badminton competitions, the All England Open, gets underway on Tuesday.</p>
