As per the report by IDC, code review and testing are seen by 48% of businesses in the Asia-Pacific excluding Japan (APEJ) area as crucial activities that artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to assist developers with.

According to the paper, prioritizing tests, figuring out the root cause of failed tests, developing test cases, and self-healing and testing methods are the main areas of focus for using AI/ML with testing.

Using AI algorithms to create and manage test scripts enables more effective and flexible testing processes. This technique is known as “GenAI” for test automation.

“The market for generative AI-assisted software development, including testing, user interface design, code generation, and other use cases, is expanding quickly in the Asia-Pacific region. According to Dhiraj Badgujar, senior research manager for digital innovations, xOps, and developer strategies at IDC Asia/Pacific, “China, India, and Japan are investing significantly in this to enhance software testing capabilities.”

According to the research, developers and DevOps specialists will be at the vanguard of this new paradigm as artificial intelligence (AI) drives higher degrees of automation throughout software development.

The IDC predicts that by 2027, “Gen AI will reinvent refactoring of legacy apps,” with businesses using cloud service provider platforms and GenAI tools to start and complete 50% of code conversion and development operations.

By 2026, over half of customers will use AI on their mobile devices to find, assess, and buy the majority of the goods and services they want.

According to the paper, “by 2028, natural language will overtake all other programming languages in terms of usage, accounting for 30% of all new applications created by developers.”
